The main source of ceramide

Scientists have discovered 9 naturally occurring ceramides (CAS No. 100403-19-8, also called Sphingolipid). In addition, there are phytoceramidespsuedoceramides and synthetic ceramides. Most ceramides in skin care products use synthetic raw materials, while ceramides in foods are mostly plant-derived, which is more natural and safer, but they are more expensive due to their lower content.

 1) Ceramide from rice
The content of ceramide in rice is about 3%, and the main component is glucosylceramide. Ceramide can be synthesized through the synthesis route of epidermal ceramide. Ceramide derived from rice has a better moisturizing effect than ceramide extracted from konjac and wheat. Rice ceramide has the function of enhancing the skin barrier function and helping to keep the skin moist. In addition, astaxanthin has a strong antioxidant effect, helping to protect the skin from ultraviolet rays and keeping the skin moisturized. Lutein and zeaxanthin can increase The macular pigment density is used to protect the eyes from blue light and other light stimuli, and the common formula is added to cosmetics.

 2) Ceramide from pineapple
Maruzen Pharmaceuticals launched pineapple-derived ceramide (glucosylceramide) raw materials in 2017 and successfully declared functional labelled foods. According to the company’s research, pineapple-derived glucosylceramide has a skin moisturizing function and a brightening effect. Function. In the first half of 2021, the number of declarations for this raw material is 6 pieces. Asahi’s summer limited beer contains 1.2mg of pineapple-derived ceramide, zero sugar and zero calories, and is suitable for people who love beauty.

 3) Ceramide from Konjac
Studies have shown that it reduces dryness, pigmentation, redness, itching and oiliness of the skin without causing any toxic symptoms, and is well tolerated throughout the study period. It is a relatively mild supplement. But the disadvantage is that the moisturizing effect is not as good as the above two sources. The ceramide supplement launched by Sankyo Co., Ltd. is mainly composed of ceramide derived from konjac.

 4) Ceramides from other sources
In addition to the common sources of pineapple, rice, and konjac, there are also a small amount of new sources, such as peaches, corn, and chestnuts. Japan's saticine Pharmaceuticals uses chestnut skins from chestnut processing waste from the Iwama area in Ibaraki Prefecture to develop a human-like ceramide that can be produced on a large scale for the first time in the world. The ceramide extracted from chestnut peel has the same structure as the lipid ceramide between the epidermal cells of the human skin, and contains a large amount of "ultra-long chain ceramide", which can play a highly effective protective skin barrier function that other plant-derived ceramides cannot achieve.
The ceramide white peach drink launched by Okayasu Co., Ltd. uses ceramide derived from peaches.
The ceramide beauty tablets launched by Nippon Flour use ceramide derived from corn germ.
